GREECE'S WILDFIRE ASHES POSE HEALTH THREAT

  The ash deposits in those areas of Greece which were scorched by the summer's wildfires may pose a serious health hazard for the local population, experts from the Crete University warned.

The results of the studies carried out in the burnt down areas showed high concentrations of lead, arsenic and copper.


Experts pointed out that several-year exposure to these elements may cause nervous system disturbances and DNA alterations.


The concentration of heavy metals on the worst-stricken Peloponnese Peninsula has been increased by 50 percent.
