  Foundation Make-Up: The Right Choices

Foundation make-up doesn’t just enhance the face by offering an overall harmony and shine. It also extends skin protection against the sun, the cold and all other environmental influences. This, of course, presumes the use of a correct skin moisturizer and a good foundation product.

Many women often make wrong choices on the shade and type of foundation to be used, and end up using too much in their attempt to obtain the desired effect.

There is an endless array of foundation products, all in different shades, to suit all skin types, as long as the user is aware of her skin type.

To choose a suitable shade, test the foundation on the face and not on the back of the hand or neck, as they differ in color.

A foundation today contains ingredients beneficial to the skin, like hyaluronic acid, vitamins, aloe vera and many other moisturizing agents.

Foundations are classified in accordance to the ingredients they contain:

The lightest in form foundation is the coloured day cream, which contains little colour and more moisturizing agents.

The creamy foundation contains many skin nurturing ingredients and is usually recommended for dry skin types.

The antiseptic foundation has a low concentration in fatty agents. Instead, liquid silicones have been added which evaporate shortly after its use. This foundation is recommended for problem skin types, like skins with acne, oily skins, hypersensitive skins etc.

The more oily your skin type, the less oil your foundation should contain.

The solid foundation comes in stick form or in a case. It applies well and stays on longer. Usually it contains less water and more fatty and colouring agents. Just a bit of it can cover a large area.

The oil free or mat foundation is directed to oily skin types as it contains no fatty agents. Attention: Do not use on the area surrounding the eyes.

The liquid or fluid foundation is water based; it has a very fine texture, a light covering ability and should be used by all skin types which don’t require heavy concealment.

A concealer or camouflage cream is included among the solid foundations. It can conceal phlebitis, burn scars and many other skin problems.
