QUESTION OF THE MONTH

What sort of new business or shop would you like to see in the Gouves Township?

Michael Denier:

Being tourists from France, we have not had any difficulty in finding anything we wanted from a pharmacy to a shoe shop. If you are a resident in the Gouves area then you would probably want some more specialized businesses, I guess, like a computer shop. But, for people on holiday it has just about everything, which is very convenient.

Stavroula Siopoulou:

I would really like to see a bank here, especially in Kokkini. There is one in Gouves, but we need more than one in the area, especially a full-service bank. The other business which is missing is a mobile phone shop (Ed. Note: There is one in Kato Gouves). It is very annoying to have to go to Heraklion or Hersonissos if you want to buy a phone or have one repaired.

George Xatzakis:

In Kokkini Hani we definitely need a bank, as I often have to go to Iraklion to carry out business transactions. Also, there are shops here which sell children’s clothes but they only have summer wear, so we have to go to Iraklion to get winter and school clothes for our kids. We should have a year-round children’s shop in our Demos.

Krstina Drettaki:

For me, I can shop for myself here, but shopping for clothes for my children is difficult – especially for school and winter clothes. Also, we need an inside play area and a large park for the kids to play in, with a place for the parents to have coffee while keeping an eye on the kids. A cinema would be nice, but I don’t think there are enough people here to make it work just yet.

Alex Haratzas:

I would like to see the return of the good old barber shop, or Koureion in Greek.  I don’t want to have my hair styled – I just want a good haircut.  Now, I must go to Hersonissos or Iraklion, and that’s a nuisance. And, we could always get a shave, too, at those old barber shops – after all, an old word Greeks use for barber is barberis, which means a person who shaves another person.
