Once again, reports show that Cretans are the most
industrious citizens in all of Greece!
According to a recent report by the National Statistical
Service, the unemployment rate in Greece fell to 7.8 percent of the
workforce in July, down from 8.2 percent in June. At the same time, Crete’s
unemployment dropped to a mere 3.5 percent, the lowest in the entire
country.
Total
employment in July was 4.56 million, up from 4.53 million in June and 4.48
million in the corresponding period a year earlier.
The unemployment rate in July last year was 8.1 percent.
The National Statistics Service said the number of unemployed people fell to
384,564 from 403,365 in June. But, at the same time, the number of people
not active in the workforce also fell, to 4.27 million in July from 4.28
million the previous month.
The unemployment rate among women fell to 12.3 percent in July from 12.9
percent in June. For men, the rate was also lower, at 4.7 percent in July
compared with 4.9 percent a month earlier.

The highest unemployment rate remains in the 15-24 age category, but even in
this age group the rate fell to 20.8% in July from 21.3 percent in June.
