Ethereal Oils

The sense of smell is one of the five senses which is an essential part of your personality and contributes particularly to your psychology.

Every one has a special scent which will bring to mind something dear from the past or present, like moments, faces and events.

This sense of smell can influence your spirit as well as your body in a positive or negative fashion, depending on the memory it rekindles.

Ethereal oils enable you to create an atmosphere in accordance with your moods. You can use these oils to relax, to strengthen body and spirit, to reduce stress or even use as an antiseptic, and the list goes on.

Unfortunately, ethereal oils are not widely known or popular and many times they are greatly misunderstood, and it is all due to misuse.

The ethereal oil is the quintessence of the plant. It is the natural secretion that the plant itself reworks and stores in its cells. The oils of a plant are the ingredients which give the plant its aroma – its essence.

Contrary to the name, these oils contain no oily elements, they evaporate easily, they don’t spoil and they are oil and water soluble.

Ethereal oils must be dissolved in some product before being applied to the body or the face. A good choice for mixing these oils with is almond-oil or the oil extracted from the pits of the grapes or a neutral odorless cream.

The ethereal oils – always dissolved – can be used in facial care as a face cream or a mask, in body care to fight cellulite and stretch marks, and, as a moisturizing agent, in hair care to provide nutrients, and in a special apparatus to aromatize a room.

Some of the most frequently used ethereal oils and their properties are:

  • Lavender: it’s an antiseptic, a stimulant and it’s used to fight acne. It is the symbol for cleanliness and tranquility.

  • Chamomile: It is a tranquilizing agent and it stimulates the secretion of endorphins. It also affects a relaxing action on the skin.

  • Rose: It is a calming agent and adds a pleasing aroma in any space.

  • Ylang-ylang: It emanates a sunny flowery scent. It has calming properties; it enhances the mood and reduces stress.

  • Bergamot: It is a stimulant and an antidepressant.

  • Cedar: The cedar wood is warm, it relaxes and fights cellulite.

  • Basil: It energizes, it refreshes and can be used as a tonic.
