GOUVES TOWNSHIP

GETS 'ARTSY' LOGO


A striking new logo for the Gouves Township, created by a noted Greek artist, was displayed this month by Mayor Yiorgos Nikolakakis.

The original charcoal painting featuring Dia Island, which is part of the township, was drawn by Manolis Kalliyianis, a renowned artist who has several paintings hanging in the TERIADE Museum of Modern Art in Mytilini on the island of Lesvos.

"The Dia Island view was selected because it is the one view which can be seen from all the villages in the township." Mayor Nikolakakis said, proudly showing the new logo to the media. "After all," he quipped, "you don't find many townships that actually own an island!”
