Chemicals found in lip stick and nail varnish could trigger breast cancer, according to a new study just released.

Scientists from the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia have warned that butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), which makes the products glossy, can interfere with the healthy development of breast tissue.

This man-made substance is part of the phthalate family of chemicals which are widely used to soften plastics and are found in food packaging, toys, carpets and solvents and have been linked to birth defects, kidney problems and infertility.
