Queen

Queen Circulate New Material:

It is their first new piece in 10 years and will be offered for free from their web site. The rock group recorded the piece Say It’s Not True with their new front-man, Paul Rodgers, and for the World Aids Day last December. Freddie Mercury, the original front-man of the group, died from the AIDS virus in 1991. Roger Taylor, the drummer of the group, commented that by offering their new song for free they hope to help Nelson Mandela’s fight against the AIDS. The group, formed in 1970 became one of the most successful bands in England. In 1997, the surviving members May, Taylor and Deacon, met to record their last single, No-One But You, which they dedicated to Mercury.

Kylie

Kylie Minogue in Athens:

The pop goddess is scheduled to visit Greece during her promotional tour for her X album. We first met her through her hit Loco-Motion, and we adored her for her I Should Be So Lucky, Confide In Me, Spinning Around, Can’t Get You Out Of My Head, In Your Eyes, I Believe and her most recent , 2 Hearts. Kylie is slated to appear at the Terra Vibe on May 22. The tour Kylie X 2008 begins its European run in Paris on May 6. Some of the cities on its map are: Stuttgart, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki, Belfast, Glasgow, Manchester and London. Kylie announced that her new show will be fresh, innovative and very enjoyable. We can’t wait.

R.E.M.

LIVE

R.E.M.:

I don’t know whether R.E.M. have anything else to say but given their past contributions, we must give them another chance and be lenient to a point. With their old discs like Out Of Time and Automatic For The People, R.E.M. managed to influence the evolution of rock music and inspire many latter-day artists. However, when they present us with the Live CD of their last recorded work, which, by the way, circulated in 2004 entitled Around The Sun and got no musical recognition, we shouldn’t expect much. Their latest work, comprised of two audio CDs and one DVD with visuals from their latest promotional tour, fails to be anything more than a redundancy, although its travel on the charts points to a strong fan club. We are also fans but not to that extent.

Kylie

Kylie Minogue:

Kylie returned all glitzy and rejuvenated in her new recording work, or, at least, that’s what she wants us to believe.  Her X work is made up from many pop pieces, ranging from disco to R ’n’ B, and from electro to ballad. In other words, she tried to cover all four corners of the field…and lost. Because, other than a few cuts ,i.e. Like A Drug or Speakerphone, her new range of songs is boring and brings to mind other pop stars’ hits like Gwen Stefani’s and Rihanna’s. Perhaps her live tour will prove different, but until then we will continue to press fast forward.
