Khaled Hosseini’s best seller makes an excellent move over to the big screen
through the deft hands of screenwriter David Benioff and director Marc
Forster. Rarely does a book so successfully transform into a movie, while
remaining so true to the orginal novel.
The film
takes you through a realistic journey into Afghanistan – even though filming took place in China - as Amir (Khalid
Abdalla)
returns
from California
to find forgiveness in a home he had long left behind.
Memories of his friend Hassan and their kite flying experiences spring to
mind, and carry us through the film, accompanied by heavily influenced
Middle Eastern music, scored by Alberto Iglesias,
which, however, is easy on the western ear.
It
is challenging to describe the film without spoiling parts of the plot so I
will limit myself to saying you should all see it, whether you have read the
book or not.
This film is bound to be nominated for many worthy awards.
