CRETAN LIMERICK EVENT

Cretan Limericks

A Cretan Limerick event was held at the Spiritual Hersonissos Center, in cooperation with the Hersonissos Township.

Many well known Cretan limerick-composers were present, as well many locals, including senior citizens.

The audience was treated to traditional dancing and music, in addition to some very entertaining limericks.

CHESS ACADEMY PREMIERE

Hersonissos chess

The newly founded Hersonissos Chess Academy organized its first tournament in the memory of Yianni Fragiathaki. At the Ano Hersonisso Spiritual Center, 34 young male and female chess players from the cooperating associations of ΣΑΧ, Α.Ο. ΛΑΤΩ,ΣΟΗ, ΗΡΟΔΟΤΟΥ & ΕΓΟΗ took part in 10-minute fast chess matches in seven rounds.

The three cups and 15 medals were given by the family of Yianni Fragiathaki.

The winner with the overall best score (7 wins in 7 matches), the hope of The Iraklion Chess Group, Panayiotis Zeppos.

The 2nd and 3rd place prizes went to the brothers Yiannis and Hristos Tsihlis from ΛΑΤΩ.

Among the local players, the 1st place medal went  to both Mario Athamaki and Yiorgo Bounaki with 5 points in 7 matches.

In the girls’ group, local Efi Maravgaki came in 1st.

YOUTH COUNCIL IS FORMED

The Hersonissos Township has formed a local youth council (15 – 28 age bracket). Its function will be to localize and follow up on the needs and problems of young people on a local level.

Also, in collaboration with the local government, the council will undertake initiatives and activities for the free-thinking and all encompassing growth of young people’s personalities.

Also, it will aim to consciously take proper measures aiming at the active and effective participation of young persons in the local society, and to nourish the growth of relations with corresponding youth councils on a national and European level.
