Metallica’s Bet:
The
last Metallica studio album was St.
Anger in 2003 and that one climbed to No. 1 on the American charts. Five
years later, Metallica return with a new album whose title is yet to be
known. Drummer Lars Ulrich told the media: “I like all I’ve heard from the
new album till now. I don’t want to sell you the story some others are
spinning that this is the best thing we’ve ever done. I’m simply saying that
I like it and I’m one of Metallica’s toughest critics.”

Paula Abdul Returns:
Paula’s return to recording was announced to the media recently. Her last
recording was in 1995 with an
album entitled Head Over Heals.
The still-untitled recording will include remixes of some of her biggest
hits as well as some new songs. Among the surprises will be Paul Oakenfold’s
and Akon’s remixes of the cut Dance
Like There’s No Tomorrow she made with Randy Jackson. Abdul has had some
of her biggest successes with Virgin but right now Paula finds herself a
free agent which could be for the best. The singer is currently planning a
promotional tour with impressive shows like the ones which made her famous.

D-Sides:
A
recent and particularly welcome addition of a recording from the man with
the Midas touch, Damon Albarn. Shortly before he decided to put the project
Gorillaz behind him once and for
all (as he has so often stated) he decided to give us another present. A
double CD with b-sides and un-circulated pieces from the cartoon-like group
Gorillaz. From the electro 68 State to People which obviously lead to the
success of Dare, there is something for everyone, whether an avid collector
or a simple consumer. Even the song titles like
Murdoc Is God or
Bill Murray show a playful
disposition we simply adore. The second cd from the run has remixes with a
more dance-floor direction.

Live Earth:
The Concerts For A
Climate In Crisis:
Brian Hiatt from
Rolling Stone said about the
disc: “most singers under 30 today have no idea how to rock a stadium.”
Indeed, neither Damien Rice nor James Blunt manages to gain our attention
and they certainly don’t inspire us to jump into action in view of our
planet being faced with climatic change. In fact, seasoned artists like Bon
Jovi, Lenny Kravitz or Chris Cornell manage to invoke much more intenseness.
Besides the sounds, the cut also includes two DVDs with material from the
concerts given around the world for Live Earth.
