Father Efstathios Mathiouthakis has been ordained as the new priest of the
restored Holy Church of Afendi Hristou in Kato Vathia during recent
ceremonies.
Crete Archbishop Irineos officiated at the rites, which were attended by
over 250 local residents and religious and civic dignitaries.
Father Efstathios, 37, is originally from Kastelliana, and is married with
three children. This
event was of significant importance since Kato Vathia had been without a
priest for two years, and it was the first time the Archbishop visited the
village. |
