QUESTION OF THE MONTH

What is the best, or worst, April fools joke you have had played on you?

Chrissie Semour

Chrissie Seymour:

I used to run a florist shop and had a day off on March 31. When I went to work the next day at 8.30 there was a large flower order for a wedding at 9.30. I was really panicking about where to get all the extra flowers from and how to make up all the bouquets so quickly. Luckily the rest of the staff came in and put me out of my misery by calling ‘April Fool’.

Leon Kakakis

Leon Kakakis:

In South Africa it was reported on the radio and television that a large iceberg was being taken from the South Pole to Saudi Arabia to help with the water shortage and it would be coming past South Africa. Thousands of people went to the port to see this event and were faced with an April Fool. The sad thing is, I was one of those people.

Margaret Clurow

Margaret Clurow:

Every year my husband did the same thing and every time I fell for it, and all our friends, too. He would have a cream cake in his hand and would ask me if I thought the cream was alright. Yes you will have guessed it, as I put my nose near to the cream up came his hand and there I was with cream all on the end of my nose.

Cees Smit

Cees Smit:

One year I was told that I had got the date wrong and that I had to alter everything in my house, and I did it.  I changed the date on the clock, the computer, the video and my watch. Then I looked at the calendar and realized that it was April 1 and I was the fool. My mother nearly had a big April Fool as I was born just on April 2.

Veronica Spiekerman

Veronica Spiekerman:

On Dutch television one year they said some people would die if they did not have a transplant. They asked people to phone in to donate their organs. It was an April Fool, and there was a big outrage over it. Some good did come out of it, though, and one girl did receive a kidney as a result of the joke.
