MEMO TO TOWN HALL:
LEST WE FORGET . . .

By Lou Duro

Due to the delay of hiring Gouves township workers (eight-month contractual workers), many of the important projects were put on hold until proper work crews could be assembled.

Now that the township has announced the hiring of this year’s workers, local residents expect these projects to be completed.

As a public service, The Khronicles is reminding the township of some of the promises it made to its citizens.

October, 2007:  Regarding the dangerous ditch in the Kato Vathia road, which runs from Main Street to the National Highway overpass in Kokkini Hani . . . “the council has approved the placement of drainage covers, and the work will start shortly.”

January, 2008: Regarding the posters littering the old National road between Amnissos and Kokkini Hani . . .   “it will be done (poster removal) by the end of January and The Khronicles will be able to show a ‘clean’ picture of the area in the February edition.”

February, 2008: Regarding a temporary solution to the dangers of pedestrians crossing the Gournes bridge . . . “the demos’ bulldozer is expected to have finished clearing the way down to the river . . . then we will asphalt the path, and add the steps needed to reach the road, which will finish it off.”
