The
Developmental Company of the
Gouves
Township elected its
Administrative Council and commenced operation, it was announced recently.
On this occasion we spoke with the chairman of the Company, Yiorgo Hirakaki,
who explained the philosophy that governs it, as well as the activities they
have mapped out for the next few months.
“It is an institution that aims to
submit proposals that will contribute in the configuration of a new way of
growth for the township and the showcasing and upgrading of works for the
betterment of local society either with our funds or by the best management
of European programs,” Mr. Hirakakis explained.
Mr. Hirakakis, as well as the Administrative Council, has decided that for
the best operation of the company they “should advance with small and
careful steps as long as the dissolving of the company will become effective
at the end of the year, following the new regulation that governs all the
developmental companies in the entire country and the creation of new ones.”
Mr. Hirakakis spoke of the company’s first and important-across-the- board
project and it concerns the Hellenic
Boating Championships.
“From July 5 to 9, the Laser Radial Hellenic Youth Championships will be
held at the Marina Porto Gouves in Kato Gouves, with co-organizers, the
Greek Boating Federation and the Iraklion Boating Group,” he said.
“In the framework of the
organization, 120 athletes nationally will participate and will be
entertained. As chairman of the Developmental Company of the Gouves Demos, I
would like to thank all sponsors small and large that contributed with
eagerness, since without their contribution this event could not be realized
due to tremendous costs.
“It is great
publicity for our
township, not only locally, but also on a Pan-Hellenic level,” he
continued.
“Our
future objective is the creation of similar events, and the creation of a
model municipal beach is in our plans, as well as the creation of electronic
information kiosks for a fast and effective access by our visitors and our
citizens alike”.
