GREAT BRITAIN OR CRETE?
THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME

This......

Or this?

While thousands of Brits emigrate every year from their home country to Crete, a certain percentage of them eventually end up returning to Great Britain, according to an English television company.

That’s why the company, ITV1, is asking the question: are you a Brit living abroad but thinking about coming home to the UK, or do you know someone who is?

“We’re making the second series of No Place like Home about British Ex-Pats who are considering moving back to the UK,” said Kaaj Mehta of Fevermedia Productions, “and we’re keen to hear from Brits who are living in Crete, but who are now thinking about returning permanently to Britain.”

In 2006, according to National Statistics online, approximately 80,000 British Citizens returned to the UK from other countries around the world.

“There are many reasons that Brits repatriate,” Kaaj told The Khronicles. “For example, homesickness, missing family and friends, missing home comforts.  But, it’s not an easy decision to make, and the premise of the show is to help those who may be considering the move.”

The Khronicles polled a number of local British expats and found that, while none expressed immediate interest in returning to their home country, many didn’t rule out the option for the future. The most common reasons given for “going home” were difficulty learning the Greek language, the feeling of isolation for those living in small villages and the security of a good job.

Expats interested in participating in No Place like Home will be flown back to the UK and given the opportunity to “test-drive” the reality of living again in the UK.

Relocation expert and show presenter Catherine Gee will provide the information needed to make an informed decision about whether to remain an expat or come home for good. The “test drive” period is for approximately seven days.

“It is important to remember that we are not trying to make a negative show,” Kaaj emphasised. “We are in no way trying to imply that the place the expats are currently residing in, such as Crete, is negative in comparison to Britain.”

Anyone interested in contributing to the series should contact Kaaj by email at nplh@fevermedia.co.uk or call 0044(0)-2074285755.
