EDITORIAL

WHEN WILL WE LEARN?

One life was taken . . . another life will never be the same.

In our two years of publication, The Khronicles has never written an editorial. Now, however, we must ask:

WHEN WILL WE LEARN?

A talented young woman, with the best years ahead of her, stepped from the sidewalk in
front of her place of employment only to have that promising life snuffed out
by a moronic driver travelling in excess of 100 kilometres-per-hour through
the busy business district of Kokkini Hani.

WHEN WILL WE LEARN?

We see it everyday . . . the speeding . . . the reckless driving . . . the passing on the blind.
And, we’re not talking about on the national highways – but right through our
heavily populated village and town streets . . . busy business and residential
areas where children play, shoppers walk and other cars come in and out of
side-streets and driveways. It’s no wonder Greece, per capita, is
continually among the top countries in accidents and road deaths.

WHEN WILL WE LEARN?

Enough is enough!  This newspaper joins with Gouves Mayor Nikolakakis in demanding
that the district provide traffic signals at major intersections and speed bumps
on roads through business districts; further, we support the majority of
citizens in demanding increased police presence to strictly enforce
traffic regulations and help bring a stop to these highway serial killings.

It is not enough to have the police at roadside “campsites,” spot-checking for insurance
and tax papers.  An out-of-date tax stamp doesn’t kill people . . .
but a reckless driver will – and does – everyday!
