School-Year Ends For Kokkini’s Kinder

The year’s-end celebrations for both the Classic and Day-long departments of the Kokkini Hani Kindergarten were held in June.

The kindergarten is a two-position school with a Classic and a Day-long department. That is, within the school, there are two morning divisions and one afternoon division.

The Classic division’s celebration theme, which was a great success, was “A Journey On A Wave,” framed by music from Greek composers like Manos Loizos, from his children’s musical composition, “Under a Cauliflower”,

The lack of a large auditorium prevented all the divisions from having their celebrations together, and the Day-long division held its celebration the following day.

Before the second-day festivities began, the students were praised by the teachers, and the proud parents were told of their children’s progress, and how some of the foreign kids learned their first Greek words in class.

This program’s theme was also nautical, as it opened with the song “The Blue Sea” sung with the accompaniment of the guitar.

Then a play, “Let’s Go To The Beach,” where the children acted out characters like the sea, a boatman, a river, a lifeguard, a seagull, a swimmer, a photographer and the sun, followed.

A play, “We Are Going To Grammar School,” acted out by the older children, was a source of great fun, as was the closing dramatization, “Sea Stories.”

During the 2007-2008 term, the school welcomed 36 children with three kindergarten educators on staff.

For the up-coming school period there are already 56 kinder and pre-kinder students enrolled.

The absolute maximum allowed by law is 25 students per division.

The school is housed in a rented facility.

The day-long division offers only one room where the children must realize their daily didactic activities of the program.

Also, in the same room they take their mid-morning snack, as well as their lunch. For the children’s mid-day relaxation period, again in the same room, not enough space is available.

The parents, as well as the kindergarten educators, deem absolutely necessary the presence of a second room for the day-long division, as well as the creation of a suitable and safe courtyard.
