QUESTION OF THE MONTH

Because of the rise in the cost of living, what changes have you made, if any, to your lifestyle?

James Rutherford:

In the seven years my wife and I have lived here we have noticed a lot of changes and you certainly don’t get as much in your shopping basket now for 50 Euros as you did say a year ago. We have not changed our ways much but we are certainly growing more vegetables at home now.

Debbie Lovell:

Everything is getting more expensive especially petrol, vegetables, bread etc. With four children who now all want designer clothes and shoes it is getting very difficult. We have boxes of clothes etc sent over from England and the cost even with the postage is not that great compared to local prices.

Yiorgos Halabalakis:

The rise in the cost of living is enormous. You could say it’s really tragic for some, as small businesses suffer a lot. People don’t go out much anymore, and only buy needs and not goods. A need is a need but a good can make life better and easier. No more good life then. We need a change.

Niamh O’Reilly:

As part owner of a taverna in Analipsi my partners and I take on more services such as bringing home the laundry or doing the cleaning ourselves. We work twice as hard to keep our business expenses down, in an effort to maintain reasonable prices for the consumer. Otherwise, we all lose.

Marlene De Wilde:

I have definitely noticed the rise in prices of things like vegetables, fruit, bread and clothes, so we now tend to buy less of everything, especially fruit which is a shame as we all love it. Also, we now don’t go out to eat as often as we would like, and have stopped going to the cinema with the price of the tickets so high.
