NEW WOMEN’S GROUP
FORMED IN GOUVES

In the minds of the people in the Gouves Township, Iris, or Iritha, will no longer stand for a secondary deity on mount Olympus, the colors of the rainbow, a lunar valley or a small asteroid.

Iritha is the name chosen by the women who attended the first two meetings, to represent the budding women’s association of the Gouves Township.

While Iritha awaits the proper official papers, the women who have attended the meetings up until now, would like to tell the rest of the women in the township about the goals of the new association…

“Generally, we ask for better schools for our children, better roads and a better infrastructure for us and our families,” was something all the women of the coordinating committee agreed upon. “We would like to see a center in the town hall where our elders can meet for some spiritual and intellectual stimulation, a medical center for the Demos, a bus connection between villages,” added these women who represent many of the township’s villages.

The association would like to participate and cooperate with other associations with common goals. It has in mind to organize activities, festivals, and exhibits to support its causes, and will function on the basis of volunteerism, solidarity and mutual respect.

“We ask for the help from all the women, from all the villages in our Demos,” the newly-formed group said in a joint statement. “Let’s work together and collectively bring about some changes to improve our lives.”

The fees for membership are: five euros to join and ten euros as annual dues.

For any information, the members of the temporary coordinating committee and their telephone numbers are:  Marianna Kapantayi, 6947891945; Hrisi Petsalaki, 6934925205; Niki Karyiotaki, 6945918447; Viki Manoudaki, 6944766260; Pepi Outhontopoulou, 6945319926.
