KOKKINI HANI NATIVE UNRAVELS THE THREAD

Dr. Maria Hnaraki, a native of Kokkini Hani, who is director of Greek Studies for Drexel University’s College of Arts and Sciences in Pennsylvania, was honoured at a special party celebrating the publication of her book, Unravelling Ariadne’s Thread: Cretan Music.

The event, held at the university’s Academic Bistro, also celebrated the inauguration of the Drexel University Greek Alumni Association, which Dr. Hnaraki hopes will create a strong bond between Drexel and the Greek community.

In writing her book, which was published in Athens last spring, Dr. Hnaraki extensively researched cultural identity expressions, traditions, and customs, such as music and dance events, in Greece, and specifically on the island of Crete.

In the spirit of Greek culture, the college’s Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management students prepared a traditional meze for the event.
