Greece: A Love Story: Women Write about the Greek Experience

Edited by Camille Cusumano

Paperback 271 pages.
Published by Seal Press
ISBN-10: 1580051979
ISBN-13: 978-1580051972

Described as travel essays, Greece: A Love Story is a collection of stories written by nineteen American women, all of whom are enchanted with Greece, its beauty, traditions, food, young men and ouzo. The stories are all different, and while one girl is dancing on a bar in Crete, another is trying to eat a dish of goat entrails to please her hosts . . . and another, while eating sweet pastries, hears her husband tell her that he is divorcing her. The collection is more than an ordinary travelogue, as it shows how Greece has helped, in one way or another, to shape the lives of its authors.

The book is a fascinating read, with each story different, portraying insights into varied Greek traditions and culture. However, you tend to want to know more about the person and what happens to them after the story ends, before beginning the next tale. A good beach read with time to have a dip in the sea between each story.
