Mamma Mia

Based on the hit stage show, Mamma Mia, featuring the music of ABBA, is a musical about secrets, love and friendship, and is great escapism. It’s the story of Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), a young American girl, who wants her father to give her away at her upcoming wedding. However, finding his identity is another story. After reading her mother’s (Meryl Streep) diary, she gets three men, played by Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Stellan Skarsgård, to return to the Greek Island they visited over 21 years ago. The film’s locations were set in Skopelos, Skiathos and Damouchari, all providing brilliant backdrops for the singing and dancing. It is a brilliant feel good, laugh-out-loud film which includes 24 ABBA songs, all sung by the all-star cast. Meryl Streep gives it her all with a brilliant performance. Her two friends, played by Julie Walters and Christine Baranski, add a lot of the comedy and pathos to this no-to-be-missed film, which is directed by Phyllida Lloyd.
