MAYOR SPEAKS OUT
ON REFUSE PROBLEM
Hersonissos Mayor Spyros Danellis issued an open letter on the Cretan Refuse
Management issue.
It
is his answer to the call for a public dialogue issued to all mayors by the
president of
ΕΣΔΑΚ
(United
Association for Refuse Management Crete) and Iraklion Mayor Yianni Kouraki.
He
pointed out the high operational cost (not lower than 220 euros per ton);
wonders who will be making payments; emphasized that the main feature of
combustion technology is the production of dioxins and toxic ashes; rang the
danger bell in the case of dysfunctional filters, and generally urged the
further investigation of other places for this plant and other solutions for
refuse management which are environmentally friendly. |
TOWN
ACTIVE
IN
LEND@HAND PROGRAM
The Hersonissos Township, the only government institution in Greece
partially-financed by the European Committee in the framework of the
competitive programs “Migration Management Solidarity in Action,”
remains active in community issues by participating as a co-organizer of
the European Lend@Hand program.
The approved program emphasizes the trafficking phenomenon
(International White Slavery) and the difficulties which face the
victims with regard to their return to their countries of origin.
In the framework of the program, the township will undertake actions
such as the presentation of knowledge and empirical processes of
involved institutions for the lawful framework through the existing laws
on trafficking and the process of repatriating its female victims; the
exchange of knowledge and procedures that are applied in each country of
origin of program members, and public awareness and involvement through
a public information network.
