After one hour of four fascinating sets where you could cut the intensity
with a knife, the two finalists justified their up to now reputation and
appearance by offering a highly technical ping-pong tournament with some
spectacular points!
The scene was the Second
Ping
Pong Championship Games Thalassokosmos held at the
ΔΟΝΑΓ
(Municipal Youth Athletics Gouves) auditorium.
Leonard Habert (right)
winning the first two sets with 21-15 and 21-17 scores led Andy Banks to
step up his output enough to win the third set with 21-19.
The fourth and decisive
set held a truly exciting finale, as the players alternated taking the lead,
and, at the last possible moment, Habert squeezed ahead with a 21-19 victory
and the championship title, which his opponent, Mr. Banks, held since last
year.
Four
ping pong associations, with four members each, took part in the tournament.
Included were 11 players from Greece,
three from France, and
one each from Great Britain
and Italy.
