ALIKARNASSOS NEWS

EVENT PROMOTES BREAST FEEDING

The Alikarnassos Township, in celebration of the world day for breast feeding, sponsored a special public event through its Office for Programming, Development and Social Policies, together with the volunteer team of the Doctors in the Aegean and the PanCretan Association of Midwives.

The event included several discussions by child psychologists and the viewing of short films, plus distribution of informative material.

CHILDREN-PARENT ROLES DISCUSSED AT SCHOOLS

The office of Social Support Services, together with the principals and teachers of the municipality’s grammar schools, organised a successful series of talks in the township schools on the subject of “children’s phobias and the role of parents”.

Together with psychotherapists and psychologists, more than 30-40 parents took part in these talks, exchanging views and presenting problems for discussion.

FOOD PROGRAMME FOR THE NEEDY

The township, together with the Saint Nektarios Cultural Association, distributed food (feta and spaghetti) to 300 families at the municipality’s Youth Multicentre.

“It is particularly important as a local government to attempt such endeavours which concern the “frail” population groups in our area, which require our support and help,” said Mayor Vangelis Sisamakis. “We intend to repeat these actions in the future to show with deeds the social sensitivity of the municipal government."

NEW HEALTH CARE UNIT
TO AID LOCAL RESIDENTS

The Alikarnassos Township has announced its plans to create a public benefits corporation to be known as the Health and Social Solidarity Organization.

This initiative, together with the operation of the new municipal clinic, will cover a big void concerning the first degree health care of the Alikarnassos residents.

In recent action, the Municipal Council approved a study concerning the viability of the Public Benefits Corporation, which will help in programming the needs to correctly operate the clinic.

All services at the municipal clinic will be provided free of charge.
