The
Iraklion Cinematography Club The New Iraklion Cinematography Club was introduced in the fall as an urban non-profit making company, to satisfy the needs of the city’s cinema going public by showing alternative films.
Contributing to this effort were also some professors: Nikos Tsagarakis, a
professor of cinematography and Areti Papadoyiannaki a mathematician.
In its first year of operation the club showed 35 films and had many related
events. These films offered the possibility of a different understanding and
a different approach to the world of cinema. The films were viewed each
Monday in two showings at the Vitsentzos Kornaros Theatre, while the
children’s part of the club showed films on the first Sunday of every month
at the “Tehnopolis Theatre,” where the kids could experience the movie magic
and discuss the films through an educational game which followed each
showing.
Beyond the scheduled film showings, the club also organised, events like a
three-day dedication to new director Yianni Ikonomidi; a gastronomy and film
event last March where club members had the chance to get better acquainted,
and a meeting at the Historical Museum of Crete on the subject of movie
critique, with some of the top movie critics in Greece attending the forum.
Finally, the club’s first year closed festively with an event honouring the
internationally famous Greek director Kostas Gavras which was organised
together with the The
club promises an even richer programme for the following season. Starting this month, adult members can watch a film every Monday at 20:00 at the Vitsentzo Kornaro, and for children there will be a showing at 12 noon every first Sunday of the month at the Tehnopolis. |
