KHRONICLES ONLINE -
NO. 1 IN GOOGLE

By John McLaren

Since going online with its very first issue, The Khronicles has become an Internet “must” for more and more readers every month.

A quick look at the statistics for the first week of November 2008 shows that, between them, 951 first-time visitors and 133 returning ones viewed over 3,250 pages. Even at quieter times of the month, an average of more than 60 “unique” visitors reach the site on a daily basis and browse those articles of most interest to them.

Many of these viewers reach The Khronicles online edition directly, either having the address www.ko-go.gr saved as one of their favourites, or by a free  email subscription, which is available by just clicking on the “Subscribe” link below the main title on any recent online edition and submitting an email address.

Subscribers receive a reminder of when each online edition is available and a brief outline of the main stories of the month.

Other people find the paper by using a search engine such as Google. At the time of writing, a Google search for “The Khronicles” comes in at the number one spot. Similarly, searching for the Greek “Τα Χρονικά” puts this newspaper either top or second in the results league. Of course, searching for the name of someone in the news or an item of local interest also leads many readers to the site – particularly those searching in the Greek language.

Apart from the many interesting stories and monthly columns, The Khronicles online edition has also become a reference source for many local people looking for specific goods and services.  The wide array of advertisers means that those needing, say, a dentist, a builder or a great restaurant meal, need look no further than the links down the right-hand side of every online page.

A click on any one of these links brings all necessary details straight onto the reader’s screen and - with the increasing popularity of the site - each advertiser’s link is now displayed at least 15,000 times per month, making an advert in The Khronicles very cost-effective indeed!
