NEA ALIKARNASSOS NEWS

ALIKARNASSOS COUNCIL
IN A SPECIAL VOTE

In the midst of recent unrest that rapidly spread throughout the country, the Nea Alikarnassos municipal council, in a specially convened meeting, decided on the following:

It condemned the murder of the 15-year-old boy by the police and called on the police to carry out its role as a "guard of life and fortune of the citizens" in a righteous manner. It has also called for the exemplary punishment of the guilty parties.

At the same time, the council expressed its "deepest and sincere condolences" to the boy's family.

Also, it condemned the vandalism, the acts of violence and the destruction of property on the pretext of protesting for the unfair loss of the student.

"We believe that the fight of youth and workers must be on the road for an essential solution and we call on the state and the citizens to measure up to the circumstances," the council stated.

  SPREADING CHEER
TO THOSE IN NEED

To assist people on welfare and people who need special care especially during the holiday season, the municipality of N. Alikarnassos, together with other institutions in the region, conducted a campaign to collect long shelf-life foods, as well as money with which they bought primary-need foodstuff like meat and olive oil.

Participating in the drive were organizations such as parish councils, cultural associations, educational institutions, businesses and local citizens groups. All the products were made available at the township's Youth Multicentre.

“The objective of this municipality is for a future with no poverty, but because we live in a different reality today we do what we can for those in frail economic situations” commented Vice Mayor Manolis Milakis. “I would like to thank all the institutions and businesses who answered our call, proving their special sensitivity.”

STUDENTS IN TUNE WITH
LATEST TECHNOLOGY

A new program for students to learn music technology via the computer is being offered by the N. Alikarnassos Municipal Conservatoire.

Using the latest contemporary methods, the students learn the techniques with the guidance of Konstantino Manousakis, a professor-engineer of music technology and acoustics.

More analytically, the student can learn music theory and, afterwards, advance in the practical application of all he has learned, eventually reaching a level where he is capable "to set up" a musical PC in his home.

The program aims:  to familiarize the student with various appliances which combine to create music; to create musical pieces with the use of suitable software in his PC; to process his composition, and to create musical scores.

The music technology program includes the following levels: Introduction to computers and file management; combination computer and music; familiarization with the CUBASE program for treatment of sound and storage of music material.

To enroll on such a program a student must have knowledge of music theory, must know windows program and have a basic knowledge English.

"With the music technology course our municipal conservatoire advances one step in the use of new technologies in music composition," commented Mayor Vangellis Sisamakis. "We aim to instruct our students in the new methods and simultaneously showcase the talent of our youth."
