Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis picked up the phone recently and called U.S. President-elect Barack Obama congratulating him on his election, and wishing him success in tackling the challenges that he will be facing in the years to come.

He went on to say that Greece "will provide full support for the fulfilment of the great hopes that his election has created."

Karamanlis also reminded Obama that the Greek American community has contributed and is continuing to contribute to American society.

 

 Karamanlis assured Obama that he appreciates in particular the clear and steadfast positions that he has taken on issues of Greek interest and pointed out that he is looking forward to close cooperation with the aim of finding solutions for all these issues, as well as the deepening of Greek-U.S. relations in all sectors.

Obama thanked the prime minister for his wishes and underlined the great appreciation that he feels for the role of the Greek American society which he knows well as he comments, "since some of my good friends are Greek."
