As
a citizen with a conscience, I am interested in participating as much as
I can in RECYCLING.
I
pick up anything recyclable, I clean it and I put it in a special bag, I
load it in my car and I go in search of a recycling bin.
Almost a year ago, recycling paraphernalia were distributed in our
village, to almost everyone, magnificent bags and refrigerator magnets,
and I thought that recycling bins would be placed around as well.
Unfortunately, till now, I haven’t noticed any recycling bin and that is
a problem, not for me personally, but for the older people in our
society whom we try to convince that recycling is "our duty" and that
it's a crime to fill up the garbage dumps with recyclable products.
And,
what do you say to students who, on their teachers' initiative, pick up
all recyclable material from their school, put it in the infamous bags
and then their teacher has to go to… another town in search of recycling
bins.
Elpida
Agrimaki
Dear Mrs.
Agrimaki:
We have heard
from many residents regarding the lack of enough recycling bins
throughout the township. Rest assured, we will continue to spotlight
this problem in the pages of The Khronicles.

First, a big thank you for allowing us to present our views for events
and "situations" that we all see, know, and care about, but very few
deal with them. The Elia school piece in January touched the interest of
many people who moved in various ways, but all positive. Marianna Kapantayi-Apostolaki |

As you know,
three months ago, the dreams of one of my best friends became true with
the foundation of the Cretan Animal Protection (CAP). The goal of this
foundation is to help homeless, injured and maltreated animals in
Kokkini Hani, Gournes, Gouves and Analipsi areas. So far, I and all the
other members are doing quite well, and we would like to thank The
Khronicles for your enormous support in our beginning, and for designing
our logo.
Gudrun Wagner
Dear Mrs. Wagner:
We are only too
happy to help. As you know, animal welfare has always been a major
concern of our newspaper, and we're glad to see more people getting
involved in this worthy cause. Good luck with your programme.
