SHARP DROP IN NEW CARS


                  

The number of new cars circulating on Greece’s roads fell at an annual rate of 25.2 percent by the end of last year as the global crisis and credit crunch bites deeper into the economy, according to a recent report.

The National Statistics Service said 8,702 new cars were registered in the last month of the year versus 11,627 cars in December 2007, which had seen a 17.8 percent drop from December 2006.

Over the entire year, the number of new car sales fell almost 7 percent to 295,853 as opposed to a 4.3 percent annual rise in 2007.
