GREECE: MOST EXPENSIVE IN
REAL ESTATE TRANSFERS

The European Committee is pressuring the Greek Finance Ministry to adopt reforms in the field of services for real estate transfers. After a relative research by the Committee, out of 21 EU member states, Greece was shown to be the most expensive country in real estate services and one that gives the least protection to the consumer.

According to the survey, lawyers' fees, transfer taxes, land registry and other notary fees alone add more than 6,500 euros to the price of a 250,000 euro home. In Italy, the second country on the expensive line-up, the proportional debits do not exceed 3,245 euros.

Similar conclusions have been reached by other relative studies, like the one by OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) which classified Greece in the sixth highest place based on the cost of transactions for the acquisition of a residence.
