NEA ALIKARNASSOS NEWS

TECHNICAL SERVICE ON THE BALL

Recently, the Alikarnassos technical service responded with lightning speed to the demands of the local Kallithea council for repaving a road in the area.  “We make sure that our tech service responds immediately and effectively" commented the vice mayor for technical services and European programs Mr. Antonis Perisynakis.

All residents have the possibility to communicate with 2810-247583 on a 24- hour basis or send e-mail to synergasia@nea-alikarnassos.gr for any problems regarding traffic, potholes, public lighting, sanitation and public greens.

"We want a contemporary Alikarnasso, without problems, caring for our residents' daily life so that we can all enjoy a better quality of life," he added. Also, for any other problem regarding services for residents they can explore the municipality's web page www.nea-alikarnassos.gr and fill out the special form.

ACTION TAKEN AGAINST
THOSE SEASIDE SLUMS

With the initiative of the public prosecutor, a meeting was held at the Nea Alikarnassos Town Hall where representatives from the Gouves and Iraklion Townships, the police, the Antiquities Ephorate and various cultural associations from the area unanimously decided to take definite measures through the courts to find a solution for the problem of illegal trailers and corrugated shacks taking over the Karteros public beach front area, and some of the surrounding antiquities.

Reportedly, these illegal dwellings well exceed 100 in the summer months while the year round residency is only slightly less.

The three municipalities – N. Alikarnassos, Gouves and Iraklion were given that area so that they may develop it and enhance the area for tourism, as well as local citizens.

"It is unacceptable that public properties, and particularly the beachfront areas like in Karteros, are turned into camping areas where anyone can install or abandon trailers, or put up shacks at will," declared Alikarnassos Mayor Vangelis Sisamakis. "We must safeguard these public areas for the benefit of our citizens and protect them from unprincipled individuals."

ALIKARNASSOS
HIGH SCHOOL

ON RENEWABLE ENERGY

“We wish for our high school to become a green school with students who will adopt a friendly behaviour towards the environment,” said both teachers and students at a high school meeting headed by the principal Mr. Panayioti Anoyianaki and professor Maria Petraki.

Both staff and students attended a seminar regarding conserving energy, which was organized by the municipality, and took place at the Polytechnic College. It dealt with the “development of a network to promote renewable energy sources between the borders of Greece and Cyprus."

At the seminar the students were informed about the installation of photovoltaic systems and the impressive conservation of energy in an environmentally friendly way.

On the same day, an additional activity took place on the grounds of the Alikarnassos High School where the students exhibited an environmentally sensitive DVD; an agriculturist visited the school and held a test demonstration of tree planting; each department of the high school "adopted" an inside plant and the students themselves have undertaken the care.

“Where there is student participation there is an essential result," commented principal Anoyianakis, who praised the municipality’s initiative. Also, vice mayor Antonis Perisynakis vowed, on behalf of the Demos, to "continue the campaign for a green and beautiful Allikarnasso."
