The Iraklion Prefect Mrs. Vaggelio Schinaraki visited the Kokkini Hani grammar school recently to announce the final decisions regarding the construction of the new school facility.

According to the announcement, the long-awaited project of constructing one building to house the 12-position grammar school and 2-position kindergarten in Kokkini Hani will be realized through the Organization of School Buildings, and not through the Cooperation of Public and Private Sector. Replying to a question from Councilman Manoli Plevraki, the Prefect fixed the school's construction timetable to be roughly three years – five months for study and license approval and 600 days for construction.

"The splendid news for us was that immediate financing by the School Buildings Organization for the project was approved and will be done under the supervision of the prefecture, so we will no longer be on the never-ending waiting list," said a spokesperson for the school's Association of Parents and Guardians. "We thank Mrs. Schinaraki in advance for her efforts, Gouves Mayor Yiorgo Nikolakaki who stands by our side, Mrs Lida Zampetaki, Assistant Director for first and second level education in Crete, who has been actively lending her support, and finally Mr. Antonaki, the head of the first level education office in Crete."

In addition to Mayor Nikolakakis and Mrs. Schinaraki, those attending the meeting included vice mayors Messrs. Vaggelis Hatzakis and Yiorgos Merambeliotakis, many other councilmen, as well as Mr. Antonakis.
