School children and members of various community organizations were on the march throughout the country to celebrate Greece's Independence Day, but none made a finer showing than in our own townships. In N. Alikarnassos (below) hundreds of school kids were joined by members of cultural and athletic associations and the military and the boy scouts in their march. In Gouves (right), school kids proudly braved the cold and windy morning to demonstrate their patriotism, while the mayor, town council members and civic and cultural leaders joined hundreds of residents in viewing the march.

As part of the ceremonies, the Gournes school kids participated with the clergy in the placing of a wreath at the war monument on the church grounds.
