WOMEN OF GOUVES
HAVE THEIR DAY

When it came to celebrating World Women's Day, our own local ladies held multifaceted activities at the Exhibition Center in Gournes which were second to none.

And, since the day coincided with the first anniversary Irida, the Women's Association for the Gouves Demos, the celebration took on an even greater magnitude.

Perhaps the highlight of the day was the cooking competition where tasty home made dishes were prepared and presented by ladies from around the municipality.

While, for some reason, many people volunteered to judge the cooking event, the honours were carried out by Mayor Yiorgos Nikolakakis, Hrisi Petsalaki, Maria Grafanaki, and Manolis Zaharioudakis.

First prize went to the Harasso team who received 200 euros and dinner at the Kyma Taverna in Kokkini Hani; second place was to the Gouves team, who received dinner at the newly appointed Hatzis Restaurant; Pano Vathia took third and won dinner at the Ambrosia Taverna; Kato Vathia, winning fourth, received 100 euros from councilman and local businessman Manolis Plevrakis, and Gournes came in fifth with the women on the team receiving a facial from 2-Be Fit Center.

Another special part of the event was a flea market which displayed many different items, including CDs, accessories, household decorative items, clothes and many books, all donated to the association by caring people in the township.

A unique segment of the activities was a presentation by Marianna Kapantayi-Apostolaki, regarding the many different ways of turning seemingly useless throw-away items into beautifully recycled objects.

Also the jewellery-making team from "Axion Esti" presented their wonderful creations, and the Organic Growers Association had a healthful display of biologically grown produce.
