The Fish Are Spawning
Dear friends
of the sea. Even though
summer is just around
the corner, we must be a little patient, because fishing is not allowed in
May. It's prohibited to fish by setting out nets, trawl lines or by spear
gun, because fish are spawning, and we must understand how important this is
for the ecosystem.
Although the quantity of eggs that a fish produces is enormous (e.g. a
mackerel 100,000 eggs, a cod 1,000,000 eggs!) only a limited number survive.
Besides, the fertility in animals is
generally proportionate to the uncertainty of their existence. A
little patience, therefore, is for our own good . . . not to mention the
good of the fish.
