PARALYMPICS WINNER VISITS
KOKKINI
GRAMMAR SCHOOL

Yiorgos Kapelakis, the champion swimmer who won four medals, including one gold, at the Beijing Paralympics, visited the Kokkini Hani Grammar School.

The school children, along with teachers and members of the Parents and Guardians Association welcomed the champion and held a reception in his honour at the school's courtyard.

In response to many questions from the children, Mr. Kapelakis said: that "I am used to dealing with the difficulties of the events, and I think of my country and draw strength from my son while I compete."

He stressed the negative repercussions of doping, underlining that, "it constitutes an open wound in our athletic environment and although there are only a few who take substances, they must be judged harshly for their actions."

He advised the students to have objectives in their lives, be it educational or professional goals, and underlined the advantages of sports, saying that, "sports offer a way out from drugs and alcohol by enabling us to acquire self control and discipline."

Yiorgos Fanourakis, the school principal, as well as the parents' association, thanked Mr. Kapelakis for his visit, and the students presented him with drawings.

At the close of the event, the Paralympics champion signed autographs for the students.

Congratulations to Yiorgo Kapelaki for his morals and strength in raising the Greek flag.
