The number of new cars circulating on Greece’s roads fell at an annual rate of 25.2 percent by the end of last year, and the situation is expected to get even worse as the global crisis and credit crunch bites deeper into the economy, according to a recent report.

Now, in an attempt to help new car sales, the government recently tabled draft legislation in Parliament envisaging a 50-percent cut in registration duties for new cars and motorcycles, a measure valid until Aug. 7, 2009.
Under the plan, the government will also abolish transfer duties for cars and motorcycles by the end of the year.
