KIDS FLEA MARKET
AIDS ELIA STUDENTS

By Marianna Kapantayi-Apostolaki

The students of the Elia Grammar school organized their first flea market, not only to raise money for a day-long student outing, but, more importantly, to develop a cooperative spirit, volunteerism, contribution to society and children learning to work together with other children.

Young students, even those of kindergarten age, offered objects they no longer needed, mainly games, but also handcrafted items made from various materials, like flower pots from plastic bottles, pictures from ice-cream sticks, painted pebbles, jewelry from cloth and wire and many more.

The board of governors of the Parents and Guardians Association organized the children's efforts and filled the market with painted flower pots from the Marnelos pottery workshop.

The Apostolaki family created a map of Crete out of pebbles and shells, a wonderful work of art which was auctioned off and purchased by Niko Travayiaki, who, in turn, donated it to the school.

With the money from the flea market, the children decided to go on an excursion to Arkadi monastery.

On behalf of the children, the association thanked all those who helped make this event possible, as well as those who supported the flea market with their presence.
