HI-TECH ADULT EDUCATION:
COMPUTER CLASSES IN GOUVES

The Iraklion Centre for Adult Education, in conjunction with the Gouves Township, has sponsored a 50-hour educational program on "information technology – communications," better known as computer skills.

The seminar was held twice a week at the computer workshop of the Gouves High School on base. At the end of the program a certificate was given to all students who completed the course.

Instructor Georgia Mamoulaki, who has been teaching computer studies for five years, said the students did very well.

"They are here because they want to learn, so far we've taught them how to use Windows, Word and the Internet. In September they will learn EXCEL, ACCESS and Power Point."

Yiorgos Hatzakis, 32, of Kokkini Hani, an employee at the Kypseli Super Market was very happy with the results of the classes.

"I didn't even know how to use the keyboard before this class," he said. "But with the help of programs like this I can eventually obtain the ECDL, which is the top certificate in the computer studies."

Another student, Maria Tzanakaki of Pano Vathia, said: "I'm learning computers for my personal use but later on who knows. I plan to take the advanced class in September also."

Those interested in the September classes should contact town hall for further information.
