The Iraklion School of Arts' end-of-year events

Recently, the Iraklion School of Arts conducted its end-of-year five day event extravaganza, which took place at the Gate of Aghios Georgios, at the Eleftheria Square, in Iraklion.

The events included a stage production connecting the history of the theatre of shadows with the lives of Sotiris Spatharis and Evgenios Spatharis.

A music evening followed from the school's chorus with works from O. Elytis, M. Theodorakis and A. Kalvos. Also featured was popular music from students of the Art School and rock music from the group Funked Up.

An art exhibit was of particular interest and was maintained by professors as well as many students.

Additionally, the program Comenius II was featured in a production titled: Crete This small…big cosmos. The Comenius II is a European Live-Learn program in which the school participated during 2007-2009.

Finally, a choreographed show was featured, titled Apollo and Dafni. It was inspired by the environmental education program, The Herbs of Crete, conducted by the author of this column. The school's dance department participated in the choreography production.

In addition, during the current year the Iraklion School of Arts dealt with the following programs: "Homeless animals in the old American Base" and "The Aghia Anastasia Gorge," both headed by myself; "First Aid" and "Volunteerism in Deeds" both headed by professor I. Ieronymidi; "Thalis and Friends – Reading Clubs in Mathematics Literature" headed by professor A. Papathoyiannaki, and "Study of Marine Biodiversity of Crete" headed by K. Ousantzopoulou.
