A record number of kids from schools throughout Crete have visited the Park of Traffic Education in Alikarnassos this year, according to a township spokesperson.

Based of the attendance, the Municipality has announced it will keep the park open during the entire summer to accommodate all working parents who were not able to bring their children during the school year.

"This way all children will have the possibility to visit and learn the Code of Road Traffic and be safely trained as tomorrow's drivers and pedestrians," said Antonis Perisynakis, vice mayor in charge of technical services. "The park elements imitate the actual traffic of bikes, cars and pedestrians in a typical urban setting."

The park covers an area of 7,951.74 square metres which, apart from its educational value, is also an entertainment and recreation area with two playgrounds.

Summer operating hours are: Mondays and Wednesdays 09.00-13.00 and 17.00-20.00; Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays 09.00-13.00; Saturdays 17.00-20.00.
