ANISSARA'S CULTURAL GROUP
HAS CHESS COMPETITION

The winners of the second summer chess tournament, held by the Chess Club of Iraklion, in cooperation with Anissara's Cultural Association, have been announced.

Despite the summer holidays, 28 young chess players from the Hersonissos Chess Academy, the Irothotos Youth Club, the Iraklion Chess Club, and others took part in the games, held at the Serita Beach Hotel.

After a series of exciting 20-minute rounds, Nikolas Anthroulakis, of the Irothotos Youth Club, emerged as first place winner with five points in five games. Following the winner, Yiorgos Bounakis, Manolis Pervolarakis, and Iasonas Nikas all came in second with four points each.

In the girls' category, Efi Maravgaki took the first prize with four points in five games, while Athina Anthroulaki, Eleni Balothiari and Maria Gargoulaki followed with three points.

Souvenirs were given to all the competitors, as well as to the Hersonissos Chess Academy, the Iraklion Chess Club, the Irothotos Youth Club, the Alikarnassos Demos, and the Temenous demos.

The awards were presented by Nikolas Galetakis, president of Anissara's Cultural Association, who said that he is looking forward to a possible first-time winter tournament.
