EDITORIAL

We add our voice to those of the angry members of the Administrative Council of the Parents and Guardians' Association for the Kokkini Hani Grammar School outraged over a recent decision not to construct the long-awaited new grammar school.

The decision was made by the new director for the School Buildings Organization, even though Iraklion Prefect Mrs. Vaggelio Schinaraki announced last February that it would, indeed, be the best and fastest way for the new school to be built.

And no one even bothered to inform the association as to the reason for the reversal!

At a recent meeting, the council immediately issued a declaration to all institutions and agencies involved, which read in part: "…that under these conditions, one thing is certain: the school will not operate regularly in September…" and it called for "all those involved to at last undertake their responsibilities."

Since the process of the school construction began in 2001, the project has been met with an absurd number of bureaucratic dysfunctions.

We call on Governor Schinaraki to step in and take decisive action to make the construction of this sorely-needed school a reality.
