I hate August!

Its a well known fact. August is boring; it's much the same as July, but with less money. It feels like you've been working forever and yet the season still has two months left; you cant even start counting down yet, that is if you don't want to look desperate. August is often too hot and, if not, it won't bring us tourists. Talk about a catch 22.

Honestly, I believe the whole month should be outlawed, taken off the calendars. I am really sorry for all of you who happen to have their holidays in this horrible month, you would herewith simultaneously be wiped off the map. But think about it, you could have your time off in July or maybe even September, month of all months. Kids back to school, warm sea, cool breeze and friendlier bar or shop staff since now they can officially countdown to THE END!

All that would be in a perfect world, of course, but it's not and since I am not president of the world yet, there is nothing much I can do about it but cope!

So, this past month I had to think of ways to cheer myself up and I came up with quite a few. We went out to dinner a couple of times to places we had never been before. Had one or two real good nights out which resulted in massive hangovers. Not something to relish in any other month except for August cause you automatically miss the next day! Went shopping at the Iraklion sales, yes I know not very responsible when in economic distress but you show me a woman that can resist 80 percent discounts and I'll show you Utopia. By the time you read this we will have also been to the 1st Cretan Bike Run in Matala. Although we will be working there, I am really looking forward to it and, hey, it takes, in one sweep, four days out of the worst month of the year.

But what I have enjoyed most of all is joining up with Facebook and Twitter. Facebook keeps me posted on what everyone I know all around the world is doing. Found some old friends whom I hadn't spoken to in years. But Twitter is the master of it all. Like stalking people without being ready for the psychiatric ward. Think of a famous person and I'll bet you you can follow him, read constant small updates on what he or she is doing at any time. Brilliant. At any time of day I know what Oprah or Dr. Phil are doing. I laugh with the one-liners of my favorite writers and comedians, Obama hasn't twittered in some time but I guess he's a busy man. Yep, it's good fun once you get the hang of it.

So I invite you all to join and follow me, you can find me on www.twitter.com as spikes1964 or with my e-mail.

Tweet you soon!
