This year's summer events in the Gouves Demos came to a successful closing when a huge crowd of local residents, estimated at more than one thousand, turned out for a free evening of fun and entertainment, which was called "The Celebration of the Cheese Pie."

It was an evening full of mirth, song and an awful many cheese pies, and it all took place at the Gouves municipal beach. The festive event was organized by the municipality's Developmental Agency with the unlimited support and attendance of Iritha, the Gouves Cultural Women's Association.

The women of the Association, coming from all the villages in the municipality, had prepared thousands of cheese-pies and offered them to all. Singer Marina Vlahaki with her group gave the spark for singing and dancing. The many people that participated proved yet again that the former American base in Gournes should remain accessible and free to all, with the only objective being the creation of events that promote culture, education, science, but also the free access to a unique space of such dimensions.
