As we go to press with the October edition, we, along with the rest of Greece, are eagerly awaiting the outcome of this month's parliamentary elections. While The Khronicles has not endorsed any party, we are hoping that whichever one emerges victorious, will restore something to this country that is sorely missing – a sense of State. As a local newspaper, it seems that whatever story we're covering, from continued power outages to the illegal gypsy ghetto to the downturn in tourism, the local authorities and industry experts all cite the same culprit: a lack of State support. It's about time that whoever occupies the big house in Athens finally realizes that this country is comprised of local communities – places like N. Alikarnassos, Gouves, Hersonissos, Malia and a hundred villages in between. They came to us for their votes; they littered our streets with their posters and flyers; now let them give us what we really need: a great big dose of State support!
