The townships of Hersonissos and Gouves participated in the 7^th Hellenic Torch Race organized by the Associations of Volunteer Blood-donors, under the aegis of the Pan-Hellenic Federation of Volunteer Blood Donors and the Ministry of Health and Social Solidarity.

The race was organized in an effort to propagate the idea of the voluntary blood donation programme.

The torch race takes place in the summer. This year's race, which is run throughout the country, officially began in Patras, and it is currently continuing throughout Crete.
